Selecting Thru-Wall Circulation Ports
What Are Thru-Wall Ports for DIY Hot Tubs?
Thru-wall ports are the fittings that pass through the wall of a tub allowing water to circulate between the heater and tub. Hot water that exits the top pipe of the Chofu, rises up (by the principle of thermosiphon) through the top port of the soaking tub. Simultaneously, cold unheated water exits through the bottom port of the tub (directly below the top port), back to the heater. All of our ports include a flexible neoprene sleeve that bends to accommodate the appropriate angle of the circulating pipes. A rubber gasket between the flange of the port and the tub wall creates a water tight seal.
Select the Right Port for Your Tub
Thru-wall ports are selected by tub wall thickness and whether freeze protection is required.
Port Type | Max Tub Wall Thickness | W/Freeze Protection | Price |
---|---|---|---|
Brass Ports | 3/8-in. thick | No | $34 |
Short PVC Ports | 3/4-in. thick | No | $49 |
Short PVC Ports w/freeze plugs* | 3/4-in. thick | Yes | $54 |
Long PVC Ports | 1-3/4-in. thick | No | $56 |
Long PVC Ports w/freeze plugs* | 1-3/4-in. thick | Yes | $59 |
Brass Through-Wall Ports (insert photo) $32. These ports are specifically designed to be used with Chofu heaters with tubs that have a wall thickness of 3/8-in. or less (stock tanks and acrylic spas). They require a hole size of 1-7/8 to 2-in. diameter. Please note: these ports do not accept plugs and, therefore, cannot be used for freeze protection.
Short Shank PVC Through-Wall Ports (insert photo) $45, $48.50 with freeze plugs. These ports are required for freeze protection with tubs that have a wall thickness of ¾-inch or less (stock tanks and acrylic spas) and receive threaded plugs with O-ring seals for freeze protection. They require a hole size of 2-3/8 to 2-1/2-in. diameter.
Long Shank PVC Thru-Wall Ports (insert photo) $56, $59.50 with freeze plugs. These ports are required for tubs with a wall thickness greater than 3/4-in. thick up to 1-3/4-in. thick (wooden tubs) and can receive threaded plugs with O-ring seals for freeze protection. They require a hole size of 2-3/8 to 2-1/2-in. diameter.
